We had this a few days earlier, too—with exactly the same behaviour: po||ux leaves (timestamp 19:10:12) and a few seconds after that “he” writes “7aw” (timestamp 19:10:17) to the channel.

Last time I thought of a random hiccup or cosmic ray or dying bits in non-ECC memory. But this time two people mentioned the behaviour _and_ it was the exact same string “po||ux” sent after leaving.

This is a bug — but not in ngIRCd but in my typing ability …

If a channel does not have the „n“ mode set, everybody can send messages to it — regardless if he is a channel member or not. And the above mentioned channel does not have this „n“ mode set.

So that is what happened:

- I was leaving the channel in my client - my client doesn’t close the channel „window“ automatically - I mistyped my „away command“: /aw -> 7aw - My client thought that the channel should be the target (still my active „window“) - and sends the message „7aw“ to the channel

So everything is fine here, apart from me typing silly commands in my IRC client :-)
